Opperative Instructions
Extractions
After having an extraction we
recommend continuous pressure on the extraction site
30-45 minutes depending on the bleeding. Gauze will
be provided for you to take home. It is okay to brush
and floss gently around the area. If bleeding persists
bite on a tea bag (i.e. Lipton Tea Bag, not an herbal
one) until subsided.
There
are a few things that should be avoided for the first
24 hours to prevent dry sockets:
• No Alcoholic Beverages
• No Sucking
fluids through a straw
• No Smoking
• No Spitting
Pain medication may have been provided for you. If not,
take up to 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours for discomfort.
If you did not receive a prescription and feel that
additional pain medication is necessary, please call
(303) 534-2626.
24
hours after surgery it is beneficial to rinse with warm
salt water. Swelling and/or bruising are normal and
can be reduced with an ice pack. Ice should be applied
for 20 minutes as needed.
Sutures,
or stitches, may have been placed. Some sutures are
absorbable and some must be removed. Your dentist will
let you know if and when they need to be removed.
If
you have questions that have not been answered please
